MUTARE-BASED sungura ensemble Hungwe Stars are back in the studio, preparing their fifth offering.

Titled “Gona Kuzvigonera (Dream, Believe, Achive)”, the forthcoming album is set to be launched any time around mid-year before its eventual release.

Speaking to The Weekender, the group’s front man and bass guitarist Simbarashe Muchita could not be drawn into giving away too much about the project, saying a pleasant surprise for their multitude of fans was in the offing.

“Hungwe Vanorema is back again, this time with a huge bang. Another potential masterpiece is simmering in the studio right now. We are happy that we have already made significant progress pertaining to the production side of things for this album and it is nearing completion. Since our last release in 2016 (Teya Mhepo), we were down to serious business and it is finally coming to fruition with the imminent release of “Gona Kuzvigonera”.

“As a teaser, what we can tell our loyal faithful is that the forthcoming offering carries six tracks and it is multi-themed so that we provide something for everyone in one package. It will have a cross-cutting appeal of such social subjects as dignity and integrity; diligence; cleanliness; and marriage. The album also extols the virtues of love and prayer,” said Muchita, adding that his compositions borrowed from and mirrored real life experiences from which he derives much of his inspiration.

Because they are serious about quality production, the gifted composer and bassist underscored, the band had retained the bulk of the cast that starred on their previous works. Also, for purposes of continuity, seasoned producer Jabulani Ndlovu and Truetone Studios will have their fingerprints on the production. Purring about his “fantastic team”, the “Sasha” and “Senjiva” singer said: “Following the success of our previous studio effort ‘Teya Mhepo’ off which the hit songs ‘Wakanonoka’, ‘Varume Makaoma’ and ‘Question Paper”were lifted – two years ago, we decided against changing both the line-up and setup, and so this should be a really fine and tight product that we are promising our fans just that.”
