Hubby smashes lover’s BMW

Senior Weekender Reporter —
AN ENRAGED Dangamvura man who suspected that his wife was cheating with a workmate went berserk last Friday and smashed the married boyfriend’s vehicle with a golf club after he caught the alleged lovebirds on their way  from a party at a local hotel.

Police are now looking for Fungai Munhapa of House Number 423 Area 12 for wilfully damaging Osbert Mombeshora’s BMW sedan at Sakunda Service Station in the city.

Manicaland police spokesman Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa said Mombeshora, who resides at House Number 7 Range Road Palmerstone, filed a malicious damage to property charge against Munhapa the very day at Mutare Central Police Station following the vicious attack.
Friday’s events are a culmination of a long-standing infidelity feud between Munhapa and his wife whom he wedded at a colourful ceremony at Mutare Boys High School in December 2014.

Some months back, the suspect caused a scene at Plan International offices in uptown Mutare after he allegedly ambushed his wife and caught her having quality time with Mombeshora in his office.

Mombeshora and Mukwekwezeke work together at the Non-Governmental Organisation with the latter being a student on attachment while the former is a full time employee.

The matter ended up at Mutare Central Police Station with Mombeshora filing assault charges against Munhapa but the charges were later withdrawn after dialogue.

Friday’s incident was a near imitation of scenes from the “Fast and Furious” movie franchise.

Those who witnessed the drama revealed that the alleged lovebirds attended an end-of-year party at Wise Owl Motel and later drove off together in Mombeshora’s BMW headed for the city centre.

“As they cascaded down the Christmas Pass curves approaching Zuva Service Station, Munhapa appeared from the blues driving another vehicle and ordered them to stop. Mombeshora sensed danger and sped off in his BMW headed for the city centre.

“In an instant, tyres screeched as Munhapa followed in hot pursuit. They raced down the steep Mutare Provincial Hospital slope into the roundabout. As the gap closed, Mombeshora made a quick turn into the adjacent Sakunda Service Station. He abandoned his vehicle and took to his heels together with Munhapa’s wife.

“In a fit of rage, Munhapa started smashing the BMW with a golf club. He damaged all the windows, mirrors, headlights, tail lights and the body work,” said a witness.

Inspector Kakohwa urged members of the public to solve their disputes amicably.

He said those who feel offended or think that their rights are being violated must report to the police and not to take the law into their hands.
