Ann Ruthenburg —
HOW on earth can someone tell me that no diet or tablets or eating programme or exercise programme has worked on them! That is absolutely impossible unless you have some form of disease – rare!

I tell you, it amazes me how many people out there feel free to write or call or message me complaining that they have tried everything. Well, how on earth are you going to lose anything when you have hamburger and chips for 10am tea, or rice and chicken for breakfast, or sadza and beef at 11am. Hey wena!

Even if that is the only meal you have the whole day, it does not mean you will lose weight. You are eating the wrong food at the wrong time. The most important meal of the day is breakfast, where you need to eat for brain power. The biggest meal needs to be lunch where you eat for sustenance, strength, energy. The smallest meal should be dinner where you eat for health. So many people have got this all wrong. The worst thing to do as a human being is to eat your biggest meal at dinner. You do not need a big meal. There is no amount of exercise you can do after dinner to burn off a big meal…why punish yourself?

Some people tell me that they do not eat much, but they continue to pick up weight. Well, what does “I do not eat much mean?” Just because you eat little at dinner or at lunch does not mean that is the only food you are eating. All those crisps you eat in secret and the sweets etc. Those automatically become bad food in your body. I once had someone who told me she ate very little, but kept putting on weight. The doctor said there was nothing wrong with her, so she asked me to help her get the body she wanted. Within two days, I had figured out her issue. She was not eating only one meal a day like she said, but she was eating several times a day and the wrong food. For instance one of the days I measured, she ate as follows:

6am (coffee), 7am (porridge), 8am (coffee), 9am (sweets), 10am (a few chips from a friends packet), 11am (tea), 12noon (shared biscuits with her workmate), 1pm (sadza and chicken and fanta), 3pm (tea and biscuits), 5pm (sweets), 7pm (small dinner, juice), 9pm (coffee and biscuit). Now if you were me and this same person said that they were failing to lose weight, looking at this eating pattern what would you say……” no wonder why. Just because they are only eating one big meal a day does not mean the rest do not count. When you add all the other little meals, they become meals on their own.

Wena, we need to stop lying to each other. When you look in the mirror at your body, can you seriously say all those layers of fat are not your fault? Seriously! Okay you might have started off on the larger side when you were younger and maybe that was your mother’s fault (I don’t know). But once you become an adult you body is under your control. To say nothing works, is not true. The start of all losing weight schedules is to be honest with yourself. Stop blaming other people for your eating habits or for your excessive weight. No one forces your mouth open to put food in it, you do that yourself. What about drinking that coke just before your sleep, those sweets under the bed, the biscuits after dinner, the ice-cream after dinner, sadza or rice every lunch and dinner.

And what about those of you who eat sadza, rice and potatoes all on the same plate at the same time. Or what about rice, sadza and pasta on the same plate, nhai! How on earth is your body going to digest all those carbohydrates and proteins at the same time?

Then there are fizzy drinks with your meal (coke, fanta, pepsi etc.) They may not have fat in them, but they have enough sugar in them to make you have fat in certain parts of your body like your tummy and waist.

Then there is the discipline of sticking to something for at least 21 days, yes, three weeks. It takes that long for your body to get used to something. So if you tell me you tried it for one week or 14 days, that is not enough. You have to do the same thing for at least 3 weeks to get a good result people. Mvura…water people water. Water alone can help you lose some weight, just by drinking at least eight glasses a day some with fresh lemon juice inside. Those of you who are doing it, can testify that it works. If your body is 75 percent water, it is certainly common sense that the quickest or easiest way to lose weight is water…so why are we fighting so hard not to drink it?

And like I always say, you cannot start a lose weight regime without including all aspects of the weight loss.

You need the weight loss method (reduce food or take weight loss tablets), the body shaping method (exercise at gym or home) and the discipline (change your mind set). If anyone of these things is not in place, you will fail. So (a) reduce your eating, (b) exercise and stay focused and (c) believe it will work.

Lastly, if all fails for real, seek medical help, because there may be an underlying cause, like a thyroid issue or cysts etc.

That is it from me folks, until next week, God Bless!
