A NOTORIOUS Sakubva man who was believed to be highly intoxicated on Wednesday night went berserk and destroyed windowpanes and other property belonging to his neighbour following a heated dispute.

Simbarashe Mwenga (28), brother to Eastern Region Division One League soccer outfit Buffaloes player, Roy Mwenga, was yesterday (Thursday) arrested for damaging property at House Number 154, Zororo, Sakubva.

He is alleged to have had an altercation with his neighbour, Helen Chifungo (59).

Simbarashe, who is popularly known in the sprawling suburb for causing havoc whenever he is high, was detained at Sakubva Police Station when The Manica Post visited the suburb yesterday morning.

The incident happened at 5 pm.

Police said investigations were in progress.

“I can confirm that we arrested Simbarashe on malicious damage to property charges. He allegedly committed the crime after an altercation with his neighbour. He is assisting us with investigations,” Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa said.

In an interview, a teary and dejected Chifungo, said Simbarashe used a hammer to destroy the windowpanes and a door. She, however, could not outline what prompted him to commit the offence.

“He always threatens us and beat everyone who crosses his path. I am struggling to raise money to complete building this house, but he decided to destroy the windowpanes.

“It is painful and I really don’t know what I did wrong. He was partially naked and seemingly drunk. He used a hammer to destroy the windowpanes. Luckily no-one was injured, otherwise it could have been worse. We always live in fear because of him. We hope the police will do their job thoroughly because we are no longer safe here,” said Chifungo.

Chifungo and Mwenga exchanged harsh words at the police station, with the latter begging for mercy pleading to compensate her if she withdrew the charges. She could, however, have none of it.

“I want justice to be done. What you did is very unfair. You always lie to us that you are a solider yet you are not,” she said.
