ZANU-PF last week launched the much-awaited Herbert Chitepo Ideological College in Mutare. The launch was announced by Zanu-PF national political commissar, Cde Saviour Kasukuwere while officiating at a two-day workshop held at Vumba Staff College. The college is meant to provide party members with the Zanu-PF ideology. It is also meant to educate its members on party policy and the route that the party should take.

Cde Kasukuwere said in the absence of money and material to construct the college, the norms and ideals of the party could still be imparted to people from any given location.

“It is not walls and structures that breed the party ideology, ideologies are about the people, hence the launch of the college today. It is also deliberate that we hold the launch of this programme here in Manicaland before all other provinces because Cde Chitepo was from this area,” said Cde Kasukuwere.

He further pointed out that Manicaland by virtue of its proximity to the border with Mozambique played a vital role in the liberation struggle, hence the need to have the programme begin in Manicaland before going to other provinces.

The structures of the Herbert Chitepo Ideological College have already been set up with experts drawn from different Government departments with the aim of imparting party ideology to the people.

The experts will move around all provinces educating people on various subjects among them the history of Zimbabwe, the origins of Zanu-PF as a party, assess the challenges faced everyday and chat a way forward among many other subjects.

The long term plan is to build a fully fledged college that will be responsible for imparting knowledge to Zanu-PF members so that the party ideology remains entrenched among its rank and file.

Addressing delegates at the launch, Cde Kasukuwere castigated party cadres who spend time backbiting each other using the social media.

“Let us not spend our energy working against each other. That is not the way of the revolution, let us not spend time denigrating each other on the social media. We should as a party not be seen to be spending the whole year fighting each other instead of working together. That is the message that we want to reach all Zanu-PF members,” he said.

The launch was attended by the political leadership of Manicaland, among them members of the war veterans association, war detainees and restrictees, women’s league and youth league among others.
