Dear Tete Barbara
In 2014 I started an extra marital affair with a single lady from a church I attend with my family. We were meant to just have a bit of fun, but she turned out to be very nice to me. Not only is she beautiful, but she is intelligent and very respectful. Last year she had a baby boy and I was very excited as I had only one son in my marriage. Soon after the boy came she began demanding that I pay her bride price and formalise the relationship which is impossible as I am legally married to my lovely wife. I no longer have peace in my life as she always threatens to bring the boy to my house. I asked her to stop coming to church, but for the past two months she has started coming to church again. She even makes it a point to greet my wife and I after the service. Help me, I have no peace!

My brother you have made a bed in a thorn bush, but you have realised that you cannot lie in it and smile. You knew you were married to a lovely wife when you began this relationship with a lady from the same church. How did you think it would play out? When it was your secret it must have been fun. Now that the ball is in your mistress’ court you are no longer at ease. I wish I could tell you that this secret will never come out, but you know that you cannot spill blood on a white patch and expect no one will notice. Be the bigger man and own up to the mistake you and your concubine made together. Your wife will be hurt, but her reaction will depend on how you handle your approach. Find counsel from respectable elders to intervene on your behalf. As you are dealing with mending your relationship with your wife, also remember your responsibility as a father to your child with your mistress. Be strong, be wise and be humble.
