A HEADMAN in Mutare District allegedly murdered his 71-year-old aunt recently after a heated family dispute. The late Esther Muzinye (71) who was rushed to Mutare Provincial Hospital, bled profusely from the nose and died after Dayson Munyoro allegedly pushed her to the ground following an altercation over lobola which the latter was demanding.Apparently, the incident, which happened last Friday night, took place hardly a day after they buried their uncle, Trymore Munyoro, who stayed at the same homestead.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa, confirmed Dayson’s arrest and said investigations were in progress.

“Yes, we arrested him on allegations of murdering Esther. We received the report. He is in our custody as we intensify our investigations. We urge people to settle disputes amicably and maturely than resorting to violence,” he said.

Esther was laid to rest at Munyoro homestead late Tuesday afternoon.

The visibly dejected deceased’s daughters, Rumbidzai (33) and Theresa Munyoro (29) who witnessed the incident visited The Manica Post offices on Tuesday, saying incessant efforts to save Esther who had become unconscious proved futile.

“After Dayson pushed her, we tried to rub some salt on her chest after she fell unconscious. An unprovoked Dayson came to our place and complained our family had spent Esnath’s lobola without giving him a cent as the “head” of the house. He was violent and was shouting at everyone.

“He also blamed all of us for selling a beast and used the money to pay medical bills for our late uncle. He pushed Esther after she restrained him from shouting. She had advised him to address the matter peacefully and maturely, but he instead pushed her.

“He was never remorseful or apologetic. He never considered that we were actually still mourning our uncle who had passed a few days ago.

“We reported the matter to the police and to Chief Marange who sent his subjects to inquire about the matter,” said Rumbidzai.
