A NYANGA granny (72) bludgeoned her late husband’s brother (69) to death with a log over a private parts dispute, which the latter bizarrely claimed she had taken from him, thereby rendering him impotent.

The widowed, Rosina Musima of Village 17, Chief Saunyama had pleaded not guilty to causing the death of her late husband’s young brother, Cyril Musima (69) when she appeared before Rusape regional magistrate, Mr Livingstone Chipadza.

However, Mr Chipadza convicted her after a full trial and sentenced her to five years in jail.

Rosina had her advanced age to thank after Mr Chipadza wholly set aside the sentence for the next five years citing her advanced age and that she was provoked by Cyril.

Rosina told the court that she had no option, but to beat up Cyril as he was demanding that she returns his private parts she had allegedly taken from him.

“Your Worship, my husband died many years ago and since then we have not been in talking terms with the late Cyril. I was surprised when he arrived at my homestead demanding that I return his privates. I told him that I did not have them and that it was not possible for me to have them.

He could not have none of it and threw a knife at me. He knife missed me by a whisker and I grabbed a burning log which I used to strike him. I did not intend to kill him, but I was acting in self defence,” Rosina told the court.

Rusape District prosecutor, Mr Tirivanhu Mutyasira, told the court that Cyril died as a result of injuries sustained when he was assaulted by Rosina.

“On June 4, Cyril Tayengwa Musina confronted Rosina Musima at her homestead, accusing her of bewitching him. He was demanding the restoration of his manhood. She denied bewitching him and an altercation ensued between the two.

“Cyril Musima threw his home-made knife towards Rosina intending to stab her, but it missed her. Rosina picked a log from the fireplace and beat the deceased several times all over the body. He sustained fractures on both hands and bruises on the head.

“The accused was restrained from further assaulting Cyril by Constantine Musima who later took him to Ruchera Clinic for treatment. He was further referred to Nyanga District Hospital for management as he had complicated fractures. On June 6, Cyril died from the injuries he sustained from the assault, said Mr Mutyasira.
