Last weekend saw the Goko tournament hurtle toward its denouement on Saturday 26 July 2014. Unfortunately, the losing Secondary School football finalist in the 2013 edition, Chipangayi Secondary School, fell in the preliminaries while the defending Primary School Soccer champions, Maunganidze, are on course to repeat last year’s feat.

Maxwell Chaya, the co-ordinator, expressed satisfaction at the road the tournament has travelled so far judging by the number of people who came to watch the games and the entertainment value of the tournament.

“Truly, I am satisfied with the quality of soccer and netball exhibited so far. At Maunganidze grounds, Maunganidze football team laboured to a sweet and well deserved 1-0 victory over a determined Goko after extra time. Mutema beat Manesa 2-0 in another semi final held at Nyamure grounds to set up a mouth watering final,” Chaya said.

Manesa netball team beat Musani 11-9 and Bangwe thrashed Goko 14-8 in another semi final held at Nyamure grounds. That means the two protagonists will square off against each other on 26 July 2014, next Saturday.

Chipangayi Secondary School’s dominance over Gideon Mhlanga and Mutema High Schools in boys’ soccer came to a heart-rending halt last Saturday.

It fell 0-1 to Gideon Mhlanga and drew nil all with the eventual winners Mutema thereby surrendering its bragging rights to the latter that had earlier on defeated Gideon Mhlanga in a tense match. Thus, Mutema will play against the winner of the matches to be played this weekend, 19 July 2014, pitting Goko High School, Musani and Chipinda Secondary schools.

In netball, Gideon Mhlanga High School brushed the feeble resistance of Mutema and Chipangayi on its way to the final where it will play the winner of the Goko, Musani and Chipinda matches.

On 26 July 2014, all roads will lead to Goko School where the finals will be played in memory of the late educationist and traditional leader cum philanthropist, Solomon Goko.
