Goat thieves arrested

The ManicaPost

Chipinge Correspondent—

THE love for meat saw two Chipinge men stealing two goats from their neighbour.

Noah Musikavanhu (27) and Lucky Makuyana (22) allegedly stole Margaret Takawira’s goats from their pen and slaughtered them.

They pleaded not guilty when they appeared before Chipinge magistrate, Mrs Sharon Chipanga facing stock theft charges.

In their denial, they told the court that they had bought the goats from an unknown man with the intention of slaughtering them and sell the meat.

They will appear in court again next Monday for sentencing.

It is alleged that on October 31, at around 6pm, the complainant’s son, Joseph Takawira secured their two goats in a pen after tying them with a rope.

On the same date, Musikavanhu and Makuyana allegedly connived to steal the goats while the complainant was asleep.

The duo stole two goats and took them to Gaza ‘O’ where they slaughtered them in the bush. They sold some of the meat.

Takawira discovered the theft the following day and made a police report. Investigations led to Musikavanhu and Makuyana’s arrest after they were found selling meat which they failed to account for.

Police recovered some of the meat and a piece of a rope which were used to secure the goats in Takawira’s pen from Musikavanhu and Makuyana.

The value of the stolen goats is $60 and meat worth $30 was recovered.

Mr Witness Nyamundaya prosecuted.
