FOOTBALL coaches need to take advantage of capacity building programmes that are being offered by the game’s mother body to equip themselves with requisite technical skills and qualifications, a ZIFA official has said.

Speaking during an eight-day Level One football coaching clinic which is underway in Mutare at Chancellor Primary School, ZIFA Manicaland chairman, Kuziwa Nyabeze, said: “It is important for those aspiring to be coaches to take advantage of capacity building programmes that are being offered by ZIFA to ensure that they equip themselves with requisite technical skills and qualifications’’.

“It is disheartening to see good coaches being sidelined simply because they do not have requisite qualifications,” he said. The course runs until Monday. The ongoing coaching clinic has attracted participants from Harare, Masvingo and Manicaland.

For the Level One football coaching course, participants are charged $80.The instructors are James Muhala and Sammy Maavhenyengwa. Participants taking part in the Level One coaching course are holders of a Level Two coaching licence.

On July 31 to August 12, they will then shift to CAF C coaching course. The fee for the CAF C coaching course is $200. ZIFA Eastern Region secretary, Wisdom Simba, said the course was part of capacity building meant to upgrade local coaches.

“This course will go a long way in equipping local coaches. We are looking forward to a great time where we will learn and take action as we are trying to nurture and develop local talent.

“The courses will also help equip local coaches with the required skills to partake in the development of football in the country,” he said.
