AN exhibition that seeks to empower female artists in the art industry and guarantee them that being a successful female artist is possible even though women have been sidelined in the genre, has been scheduled for launch next month.

Local visual design artist, Getrude Manase (22) will showcase her works as a way of winding up her Creative Art and Design degree at Chinhoyi University of Science and Technology, the showcasing being a requirement at the college.

The students are required to showcase the works they would have done through out the duration of their learning programme and from 9-11 November, Manase will bask in her glory at The National Gallery of Zimbabwe.

Manase will showcase her artwork in the following genres, textile, graphic, advertising, drawing, trend making, 3D design, environmental, industrial, photography and fashion design.

Speaking to The Weekender, Manase said the theme of her exhibition, ‘Breaking Boundaries’ shows clearly how she, as a girl child has broken boundaries and succeeded in the male dominated genre.

“You can still make it and I am a living example that art can be a career choice,” said Manase who studied commercials at Advanced Level at Mutare Girls High School in 2012. Manase said she however, did an art and design short course at Mutare Polytechnic College after finishing her Advanced Level education where she learnt that she could further her passion in arts at a much higher tertiary education.

She has also showcased her artworks at The Women’s Art Festival 2015 at the Germany Society in Harare. The festival is meant to encourage female artistes to showcase their artwork and empower them as well.

She is currently a final year student at Chinhoyi University of Science and Technology studying an undergraduate degree in Creative Art and Design. The official launch of the exhibition will be held on November 10, 2016.
