Hundreds of aspiring actors and actresses thronged Goldfields Mall in anticipation of getting roles in the soon to be released series, ‘’Gaza,’’ as they auditioned for different roles in the epic; 36 made it to the next round amid whistles and ululations.

Following Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, Dr Mushohwe, Deputy Minister of ICT and Courier services, Dr Win Mlambo and Mr George Charamba’s visit to Chipinge on account of digital migration, a resident of Chipinge said he had a letter from the ZBC which promised to fund his film projects.

A week later, Ashirai Mtirikwi Mawere of the CHIEF fame, returned to the limelight as young men and women from all walks of life, scrambled for the chance to be part of the inaugural series that would re-tell the story from the east by the people themselves.

Cde George Charamba heard the petition brought forward by Mawere and promised to look at the matter as a matter of urgency.

‘’I am taking a personal interest in the film to be made by this man to see to it that it is produced,’’ he said emphatically before the house came down with clapping of hands.

A spokesperson confirmed that Mr Mawere was passionate about acting as once an actor in ‘’Estate Blues,’’ a local drama that aired some years back before the advent of Dstv.

Mawere’s public relations officer, Emmy Kotz, said: ‘’We are really excited by this joint venture between our company and the national broadcaster as we go flat out to help in content creation in view of the clarion calls from the minister and the ZBC chief executive to create content as more channels will come on board. Therefore, we are happy to be part of the new generation of content creators who will chart the way forward, ‘’ she said.

Veteran TV actor, Eddlove Kutsiwa Mutama who starred in the Gringo and Nzungu muriva series, will be part of the production. Ben Mahaka, the star of 263 would be the director of Gaza while Aaron Chiundura Moyo would be involved in the writing part.

‘’We have harnessed some of the best brains in the Zimbabwe film industry as we seek to tell the Chipinge story and go back in time to the start of the Gaza empire. In our auditions, we were surprised to get people from as far as Mozambique, Harare, Masvingo and Gweru not to mention local talent,’’ Mawere said, with a glow in his eyes.

There would be training in Chipinge for the successful actors and that is huge for the small farming town and its environs. Training entails quality.  It remains to be seen whether the envisioned series ‘’,Gaza,’’ would transform the face of Chipinge.
