THE race for Premiership promotion in the Eastern Region Division One League is taking intriguing twists and turns with each passing week as Mutare City Rovers coach, Kenny “Bokande” Kachara, still remains unbeaten after a consecutive six rounds of league matches in charge. It appears log leaders Dongo Sawmills, Eastern Stars, former Premiership side Masvingo United and Mutare City Rovers all have realistic chances of winning this riveting race for promotion into the domestic top-flight league.

However, it is Mutare City Rovers’ comeback kid — Kenny “Bokande” Kachara — who has attracted much attention, given the awe-inspiring six-match unbeaten run since he took over from axed Joseph Takaringofa.

Kachara started his fairytale run with a 3-1 triumph over Gaza Gunners before edging troublesome Surrey 1-0.
Rovers then thumped hapless Chivhu Stars 7-1 before humiliating ZRP Masvingo 6-2 on home turf in Masvingo.

The results kept on justifying the decision to wield the axe on Takaringofa as Magusha, as City Rovers are affectionately referred to, went on to bag maximum points with a 2-1 triumph over Dongo at Sakubva Stadium.

Kachara then guided his team to a satisfactory away draw to Eastern Stars at Rudhaka Stadium in Marondera on Sunday.
The Mutare City Rovers coach, who has done everything to give good reason for his return, said he was approaching each match as it comes.

He said in as much as his team wanted an away win in Marondera, the result boosted their morale given that Eastern Stars are also in the race for Premiership promotion.

“I think we are on the right track. The draw against Eastern Stars gave us the impetus and belief that, as a team, we can indeed achieve what we want.

“I am sure you are aware that Eastern Stars are also in the race for Premiership promotion and therefore forcing a stalemate in their own backyard is an achievement worthy celebrating.

“As a coach, I am taking each match as it comes. We do not have any team that we underrate. This is the reason we are preparing for Gutu just like we prepared for Eastern Stars,” said Kachara.
