Five matches to go!

FIVE rounds of league matches remain before the curtain comes down on the 2016 season of the Eastern Region Division One League with only one point separating log leaders Buffaloes and second placed Yadah FC.

Buffaloes will enjoy the comfort of adding three points to their tally this coming weekend, thanks to a walkover against the now defunct Chibi FC. On the other hand, Yadah will have a tricky home encounter against Africa Trust, an unpredictable outfit that is now popularly known as Mutunga Dzose by followers of the league.

Yadah knows fully well the threat that Africa Trust poses after the Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries team needed a late equaliser in the league reverse fixture to secure a draw at the James Mwonzora Stadium in Watsomba.

Africa Trust gaffer Trust Jombe said they will give their best fight and will not allow Yadah to get it on a silver platter.

“This is going to be a tricky one given the circumstances that Yadah would want three points at all costs. They are in the race and have a realistic chance to get the title and that is the reason we are expecting to meet formidable opposition.

“However, I am sure they (Yadah) are aware that we are not pushovers. They managed to get an equaliser in the last match in the match we played against them at our home ground at Watsomba.

“That speaks volumes about our pedigree as a team to match their standards of play. We are not going to up our game simply because we are playing a team in the race but we have always wanted to get maximum points in each and every game that we play. We have made it clear from the onset that we are not in this league to make numbers,” said Jombe

The Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries bankrolled Yadah were on top of the table before last weekend when they were dislodged following a 1-0 defeat at the hands of lowly Mpandawana away at Gutu.

Mutare outfit Buffaloes were held to a one all draw by troublesome Surrey during the same weekend, leaving the Ndega Matsika-coached side on top of the latest log standings. Surrey have not been an easy opponent especially while playing at their home ground and this is the same team that almost derailed Yadah championship dreams a few weeks ago, only for Yadah to be rescued by a boardroom decision that awarded three points to the PHD outfit.

Yadah FC were embroiled in match officiating chaos recently after their league match against Surrey was abandoned in the 93rd minute with both teams tied two-all. The match was abandoned after the referee awarded a penalty to Yadah FC in the 93rd minute.

This did not go down well with Surrey players who protested against the referee’s perceived diabolical decision leading to the abandonment of the match hence the boardroom decision to award the match to Yadah.
