NOT even the sky is able to be the limit for Sakubva-based fortress of education, First Class Academy, as another feather was added to its growing cap of accolades last Friday.
First Class Academy was adjudicated the best independent college in Mutare district at the Manicaland Provincial Merit Awards held last Friday at Mutare Boys High School. The beacon of corrective tuition and learning was awarded two recognition certificates for out-standing performance.
The Manicaland Merit Awards are held annually.
Recently in an interview with First Class Academy headmaster, Mr Steven Chiwara said: “Last year we did the same. We want to continue not only to maintain the standards, but to excel.”
Speaking to The Manica Post education correspondent, Morris Mtisi, after the awards, Mr Chiwara thanked the PED’s office for recognising their effort.
“We enrol everybody without restrictions based on ability and aptitude but work hard to produce excellent results. This is not easy, but with the effort we put from the teachers and the administration we offer an environment that is perfect for each child to do his or her best. Our teachers are extra-committed and dedicated.
‘‘The administration offers excellent supervision. So while we are proud of our performance, we are not surprised. Hard work pays. It’s that simple,” said Mr Chiwara.
The former Elise Gledhill education veteran also thanked the Sakubva community around the school for amazing cooperation.
“We kindly asked the surrounding households to reduce noise from radios and discos every week day from 7am to 5pm.
‘‘They complied. There is now very little disturbance from our neighbours until after 7pm. We want to thank them for their co-operation and understanding. Even the nearby Nyausunzi Beer-Hall has complied and become much quieter than before. We thank them too for their understanding,” said the hilarious Mr Chiwara.
For the past three years, the college administrators ably led by the directors, Mr Stephen and Mrs Tracy Mutsongodza have been walking with a spring in their step to the podium to receive awards.
Some of the student luminaries who have raised the First Academy flag high include an ‘O’ level student, one Nobility Dhliwayo, who obtained nine As and one B and Kudzai Muparanyanga who proudly scooped 20 points at ‘A’ level.
Kudzai Muparanyanga who scored 20 points after attaining 4As in Business Studies, Accounting, Economics and Geography; Benniah Chizunza who scored 15 points (Business Studies A, Accounting A and Mathematics A), Anesu Paradzai, another proud 15 pointer in Accounting, Mathematics and Economics, Simbarashe Chatowa who attained As in Business Studies, Accounting and Mathematics and Lawrence Nhambirwa who realized As in Business Studies, Accounting and Economics all received awards on the day.
Last year the Advanced Level results at First Academy were positioned among the top 10 in Manicaland.
The academy, which is situated in the heart of Sakubva high-density suburb in Mutare, has continued churning out academic luminaries who have made it in life and are now its ambassadors.
The college’s proprietor, Mr Stephen Mutsongodza, modestly said the excellent results showed that the college was on the right course.
“I would like to thank everyone; the administration, teachers, students and parents for making First Class Academy proud. This is a result of everyone’s effort because everyone played their part well. We will continue working hard to produce the best results that will put our college on the map,” he said.
