MANICALAND Rugby Board will be holding its first half Annual General Meeting tomorrow (Saturday) at Mutare Sports Club.

Manicaland Rugby Board Chairman, Josiah Borerwe, confirmed that the AGM would deliberate on shaping structures of the board as they have a big task ahead of them this year.

He said issues of finance, selection of new Provincial Development Officers, deployment of some PDOs to new areas and the number of clubs to be affiliated in their respective leagues would be some of the major topics to be tabled for discussion during the AGM.

“We (MRB) are having our AGM on Saturday (tomorrow) and members of the board will be meeting to discuss major developmental issues of the game. The MRB AGM will be happening ahead of the Zimbabwe Rugby Union’s AGM,” said Borerwe.

“Manicaland has positioned itself as the leading and shining example in Zimbabwe rugby administration ahead of all provinces. We have managed to come up with structures for the board, not forgetting our aim to reclaim our glory in club rugby competitions as well.

“This year’s AGM will be focusing on selecting and deploying more PDOs to different districts as our area of influence in rugby has grown throughout the province.

We are to discuss the annual budget for the board, to elect development officers to join ZRU, discuss solutions of issues that will be raised by our affiliated pillars who are our referees, Mutare Sports Club, Mountain Lions Rugby Club, coaches, Sevens club teams, NAPH and NASH as well as women rugby,” he said.

“We will also amend, modify and amplify the existing rules and by-laws of the board,” added Borerwe.

Meanwhile, Sagambe Rugby Tournament begins today (Friday) where secondary schools in Mutasa District are expected to compete for a top spot in the schools rugby contest.

The tournament is expected to end on Sunday and will be held at Sagambe High School grounds.

Mutasa PDO Toro confirmed that all was in place for the Sagambe Rugby Tourney.

“We are expecting nine schools through-out Mutasa District to participate in this tournament. Out of this tournament, one select district team will be formed to participate at the annual Dairiboard tournament which is held at Prince Edward High School in Harare annually,” said Toro.
