A DANGAMVURA man will fork out $100 or risk 60 days imprisonment after he was convicted of manhandling a police officer at a local night club. Tichaona Masenga (29) was convicted on his own guilty plea when he appeared in court facing assault charges last Thursday.Mutare senior magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiundura presided over the matter as Mr Fletcher Karombe prosecuted. He was ordered to have paid the fine by October10, 2016.

Allegations were that on October 1, and at around 1am, Mtoda Tavengwa(25), a police officer stationed at Mutare Rural Camp, approached Masenda and warned him against quarrelling with other people.

They were allegedly at a local night club.

“Tavengwa advised Masenda not to quarrel with the unidentified people he was quarrelling with. “This, however, did not go down well with Masenda who went on to head butt the police officer on his face. He proceeded to assault him several times all over the body,” said Mr Karombe.

Ravengwa sustained a cut on the lower lip and a swollen eye. In passing her sentence, Mrs Chiundura said Masenda had acted unlawfully and disrespected Tavengwa, a Good Samaritan who was offering him free and good advice to stop quarrelling.

She said society does not welcome such violent behaviour and warned him that the next time he appeared in court facing a similar charge, he would receive nothing else, but a custodial sentence.
