BULAWAYO will host ZIFA Level One course for female coaches for the first time.

The course will run from April 22 to 29 at Bulawayo Raylton Sports Club.

In a telephone interview from her Bulawayo base, Zimbabwe Women Football vice-chairperson, Samukheliso Silengane, said all was set for the eight-day training which will equip female coaches in the country with the necessary coaching skills.

“So many female coaches have been inquiring about the training. We have received calls from Matabeleland North, South, Midlands, Manicaland and Masvingo. We hope to have as many ladies as possible. We are targeting 20 plus ladies. When we announced it, the response we got is overwhelming,” she said.

Silengane said the course was part of their capacity building exercise meant to upgrade female coaches to the next level of the game and consequently improve the quality of coaching and eventually the game itself.

“I urge all ladies out there to come out in their numbers and attend this course. We rather take the chance and equip ourselves with the knowledge. As women we do have a lot of questions and certain things that we cannot ask when we attend training courses with our male counterparts, so we decided to have this specifically for women.

This course will ensure that women are not left out. For long, many courses have been dominated by men. The courses charges are only $40 so that the ladies can afford attending them.

We call upon former players, teachers and players who are interested in the technical knowledge of the game to come forward as this is an opportunity for them to be empowered. We do not close the door for men, they are also welcome,” said Silengane.

Former Mighty Warriors player, Sithethelelwe Sibanda, who recently attained a CAF A coaching licence will be one of the facilitators.

Silengane also talked about the National Super League and said: “This year we are geared up and our National Super League will kick off on April 29. So far we have 12 teams which have indicated that they will be part of the league. We intend to have 16 teams. The teams are still registering and we will be able to furnish you with finer details later on,” she said.
