WOMEN soccer giants Faith Drive got off to a flying start when the Dangamvura based side secured a comprehensive 3-2 victory away to Cyclone Queens.

The match was played at Chirodzo Primary School Ground in Harare at the weekend.

Faith Drive coach Admire Mahachi was pleased with the perfect start to the season with goals from Maud Mafuruse (15), Concilia Madotsa (23) and Mavis Makana (55).

Cyclone Queens responded with two goals in the second half, but it was too late for the Harare girls to creep back into the game. They home side failed to breach Faith Drive’s rock solid defence.

Mahachi said his charges still have work hard and remain focused.

“We will achieve more this year if we remain focused and continue to work hard. I am very happy with the results so far. We just have to remain focused and continue to work together as a team.

“This is only our first game of the season and if we continue with this form we will finish in a respectable position,” he said.

Following their victory, Mahachi said his charges are bracing for nothing short of victory against Bindura based Auckland Queens tomorrow.

Faith Drive and Auckland Queens will clash at Nyamauru School.

The match kicks off at 11am.

“We are expecting stiff competition in the next game against Auckland Queens. Auckland is a good side but we will continue to press them hard until we get away with maximum points.  We want to play better than we did and come up with maximum points,” said Mahachi.

Auckland Queens coach Jerrymike Gumbo said he is looking forward to a thrilling encounter. He was also looking forward to collecting maximum points.

His charges banged three points against Bulawayo-based Borrow Jets.

Auckland beat Borrow Jets 2-0 in Bindura.

“My girls are very confident and we want to collect maximum points. We are drawing the confidence from last week’s encounter. We hope to maintain the top form throughout the season. We are fully prepared for the game and we will definitely surprise them. We are not going for a holiday, but serious football business,” he said.
