MOZAMBICAN-BASED soccer player and former Eastern Lions midfielder, Liberty Ndadzungira has donated soccer equipment to La Sakubva.

With less and less sponsorship coming from the corporate world due to the harsh economic environment in the country, the player who plays for premier league side, Liga Muculuman donated bibs, stop watches, whistles, pumps and soccer balls.

Ndadzungira joined La Sakubva as an 11-year-old boy from Sheni Primary School in Dangamvura.

He leant all the early childhood football skills at La Sakubva.

He latter enrolled at Ellis Gledhill Schools and later Mutare Boys’ High School.

He is one of the finest players La Sakubva has so far produced. Their class was considered to be one of the best with the likes of Onismor Bhasera, Mike Nyamukasa, Washington Arubi, Willard Katsande, the late Vincent ‘Buffy’ Girandi, Wirimayi ‘Bhaya’ Karonga, Kudzi Maramba, Malvin Tsuro, Tatenda ‘Gede’ Matiringe and Protasho Kabwe.

In Zimbabwe, the player turned out for the now defunct ZUPCO Juniors, Gunners and Eastern Lions, while in Mozambique he has played for Maxaquene and Liga Muculuman.

La Sakubva gaffer, Timothy Sicho Masachi, said he was very happy to be remembered by one of his sons.

“I am very happy that Jombo has remembered us. We came together from ZUPCO Juniors in 2002 to form La Sakubva. By that time he was very young. He loved the game and he is among the best players I have worked with.

“He plays as a link cum striker. This donation will go a long way to groom more Liberty Ndadzungiras. We want to thank him so much for remembering us.

It is so good to be remembered by one of your players. I hope that what he did will trigger some of our former players who are forgetting to plough back to the club that has made them to become who they are in life,” said Masachi.

La Sakubva was formed in 2002 as a business venture to groom and then sell players and also as a way to offer young boys an alternative to crime and drug abuse by giving them football as a form of employment.

The club has teams from Under-10 to Under-19 which have 30 players each and a Division Two side.

The club has maintained its dominance in Manicaland junior football tournaments.

Masachi has also helped many schools in major competitions. In 2004, he won the Eric Rosen Trophy with Sakubva High 1 before winning another junior tournament with Sakubva Primary in 2010.

The club is by far the most successful junior football club in Manicaland and a fountain for football in the province.
