Econet strikes deal with Polish firm

The ManicaPost

THE partnership telecoms Econet has announced with Polish-based digital systems and device company Cubiware will enable Econet to provide a solution accessible in Africa, the enabling of pay-TV services through DVB-S2.

By making use of the latest iteration of CubiTV middleware, Econet would give subscribers access to premium on-demand content through its PushVOD functionality, allowing TV subscribers to watch premium movies and shows at a time and order of their choice.

The Cubiware middleware platform is “hybrid-ready” so subscribers can benefit from a variety of interactive and streaming services as soon as the infrastructure is in place.

“We aim to provide the best service possible, and this gives us the platform to do that,” said Econet Media’s Joe Hundah.

Founded by Zimbabwean Strive Masiwa, Econet has operations and investments in Africa, Europe, South America and the East Asia Pacific Rim.

The latest deal comes three months after Econet subsidiary Liquid Telecom’s acquisition of Neotel in partnership with Royal Bafokeng Holdings.

Cubiware co-founder Jakub Gorski said the Econet-Cubiware partnership would enable Cubiware to tap into the potential of emerging markets in Africa.

“This new partnership allows us to bring high quality solutions to the viewers there,” said Gorski. – Business Day.
