TWO Rusape men recently landed themselves in serious trouble when they were arrested attempting to sell python skins and pangolin scales to police detectives and Parks and Wildlife officials.
Brighton Maisiri (39) of Domborembizi Village and Caltas Magodo (49) of 3 Bondana Village, Rusape were charged with possession or sale of specially protected animals and products as defined in Section 45(1)(b) of the Parks and Wildlife Act, Chapter 20.14 also read with Section 11 of the General Laws Amendment Number 5 of 2011.

The two were not represented when they appeared before magistrate Ms Patience-Ururu Madondo and they all pleaded guilty to the offence. Ms Madondo was expected to sentence them this week.

Public prosecutor, Mr Gift Mutigwa, told the court that detectives from CID Rusape teamed up with officials from Parks and Wildlife Management and purported to be genuine buyers of the python skins and pangolin scales.

The two attempted to sell the python skins and pangolins scales to them and were immediately arrested.

“Detectives teamed up with two members from the Parks and Wildlife Management and purported to be genuine buyers and proceeded to Bondana Village.

On the way, the team met with the two accused persons who took them to Plot 3 where the stuff was hidden,” Mr Mutigwa said.
