MUTARE’s young upcoming Zim dancehall artiste, Diamond kid is set to go for the Starbrite boot camp in Victoria Falls next month after qualifying at the second round of the show.

Talent Karembera (12) who has become a darling to many Zim dancehall lovers in Mutare and beyond, competed at the Starbrite’s second round in Harare last weekend where he was awarded with tickets for the boot camp.

The boot camp which will run from November 7-11, 2016 will see the Grade Six pupil and more than 200 other competitors receiving training in their different music genres.

Six other competitors from Mutare will also join Diamond kid at the boot camp.

“The second round was tough but I managed to overcome it and I am expecting to be among the top three at the finals,” said the young and energetic artiste.

As a result of his inspiring and unique lyrics that are laden with gospel messages, as well as energetic choreography on the stage, the 12-year-old is destined for greater heights. He works under the stable Big Joker Records, which is owned by his father, John who is also a musician.

As part of the celebrations, the budding artiste will perform at popular entertainment centre, Club Mandisa tonight (Friday). He will be backed by resident dance group, Mandisa Queens.
“He budged into the studio one day when he was nine.

He started singing and we were all shocked. We couldn’t stop him. His passion and love for music is just amazing.

I have been his mentor and I am glad that he balances school and music well. He has been doing well at school and that is so motivating. We are all proud of him as his parents.

He has a bright future if he remains humble,” said the artiste’s father and manager,John Karembera.

Like talented Zim-dancehall chanter, Soul Jah Love, Diamond Kid sometimes does not write his lyrics down, it comes from head. He denounces drugs and urges people to have faith in God in most of his songs.
