FAMILIES and fun lovers in Mutare were last weekend in for a rare yet memorable treat as local radio station Diamond FM celebrated its second year of existence at Manicaland Motoring Club.

The fun-filled anniversary which lit up Mutare’s entertainment scene for the whole weekend was oversubscribed.

The radio station manager, Leander Kandiero described the bumper turnout and corporate participation as shocking.

“We are pleased with the way the two-day event went. Star FM presenters, Tilda and Mai Judah did extremely well and we are overwhelmed by participants’ response. It was shocking. I would also like to thank the sponsors and corporate world who also made the anniversary memorable. They carried the days.

“Sunday is a strange day to host such events but people of Mutare came in numbers to meet their favourite musicians and radio presenters. The Mother’s treat was also oversubscribed. The gathering was heavily supported and we would like to assure our listeners that next year we will hold a three-day event,” he said.

Although all artistes who performed at the anniversary such as Lady Popa, Afonso, Faith, Ngoni Kambarami and Caff put sterling performances, it was gospel artiste, Sebastian Magacha who left people – of all ages – clamouring for more despite performing last. His verve on stage captured hearts of many. He performed songs such as Ridza bhosvo, Shaura, Satan imbavha, Wonererwai and Mweya Mutsvene which features Jah Prayzah among others.

“It is not everyday that I see such an enthusiastic crowd. The atmosphere was electric. It was good for myself and the band members and I would like to thank Diamond FM and its partners for inviting me to be part of this awesome anniversary. I believe we gave our best and we would be glad if we are invited again to future events,” said the talented Magacha.

People interviewed called the radio station to host more family events.

“I think you saw it from the massive attendance that people were entertainment starved here in Mutare especially family shows. We wish Diamond FM would organise these events on a monthly basis so that we have some time out with our family while enjoying music and have a chance to meet our favourite deejays,” said Mrs Mabel Chirenyi, who was accompanied by her husband and three children.

Another ecstatic reveller, Mrs Chioneso Bvuma of Dangamvura said besides entertaining, the anniversary fiesta was educative, particularly the “Pachedu Vasikana: Ngokwethu Mankazana” which was led by top presenters Tilda Moyo and Tariro Mazvarirwofa popularly known as (Mai Judah).

“We learnt a lot especially the concept which was led by Tilda and Mai Judha. We are surely going to improving our cooking skills as well as work on areas such as cleanliness at home.

The presenters well articulated the importance of how to be a responsible and tidy mother and wife in our homes,” she said.
