IN what promises to be a historic entertainment fiesta, Mutare’s one and only commercial radio station Diamond FM will this weekend hold a two-day anniversary to celebrate its two years of existence.
The radio station which is part of the broadcast arm of the Zimpapers Group, will hold the event at their traditional venue Manicaland Motoring Club and will be broadcast live.
This year’s festivities are special and different in special ways, said the radio station’s affable manager, Leander Kandiero.
Unlike last year where the event was a one-day event, this year’s festivities will see the radio station teaming up with sister radio station Star FM in unveiling a unique but exciting concept: “Pachedu Vasikana:Ngokwethu Mankazana” which will be led by top presenters Tilda Moyo and Tariro Mazvarirwofa popularly known as (Mai Judha).
The Saturday event concept, which will be held tomorrow, is open for everyone but participation will be strictly for women who will engage in competitions in several categories such as cooking, cleaning, hygiene among other things.
The concept, Kandiero said, will be coming to Mutare as part of the celebrations.
“Women who are willing to be part of the competitions should register in groups and the registration is free. This will also give them time to exchange ideas and learn from each other’s experiences. They will be plenty of prizes to be won and this is part of our appreciation to listeners who have stood with us since the station’s birth,” he said.
Saturday’s event ends at 6pm.
“We will also give people an opportunity to celebrate Mother’s Day in style, on Sunday. There will be a Diamond FM Mother’s treat where people will be given time to appreciate their mothers. A bias will be given to elderly mothers who will be in attendance. They will be given a chance to drive cars with the assistance of instructors.
Mothers will also be given a chance to be radio presenters. There will also be a five-aside soccer match. A lot of prizes will be won to outstanding individuals and teams,” added Kandiero.
Other competitions that will be held include eating and drinking, outstanding mothers.
From 2-6pm, celebrated and upcoming artistes namely Sebastian Magacha, Ngoni Kambarami, Caff, Zim dancehall Lady Popa, Mountain Kid, Faith and Avonso will take turns to entertain the audience.
The event will also be an ideal opportunity for the business community to advertise their products and services.
The anniversary will be broadcast live on the local radio station. Children (Under 12years) will part ways with a paltry 50 cents on the gate while adults will part with a $1.
Children have also not been overlooked on this weekend’s menu.
They will be treated to entertainment events such as jumping castle, horse riding and face painting.
