CHAOS broke out in Hob-house last week as residents protested against the heartless killing of Rumbidzai Ndoro by her stepmother, Tendai Happiness Bwanya and burnt her (Bwanya)’s property.

The irate residents were also blaming Rumbidzai’s father, Richard Ndoro for failing to take action when he should have. Hob-house residents demonstrated against Ndoro on the day of Rumbidzai’s burial and threatened to assault him alleging that he had sacrificed the life of his child because of a woman.

After the burial, the angry mob went back to Bwanya’s house and scribbled profanities on the walls, peeled off the floor tiles and burnt her property.

The house has since been deserted as Ndoro left for Harare with his family after the burial and Bwanya is at Mutare Remand Prison awaiting trial.

Speaking to The Manica Post, a fuming neighbour who only identified herself as Mafurapasi, said all the blame should be put on Ndoro as he allegedly ignored the fact that his lover was abusing the six-year-old child.

Said Mafurapasi: “I blame the father, he stated clearly that at times they were summoned at Rumbidzai’s school and crèche and that they had been warned and cautioned against the abuses that Bwanya was perpetrating against the child.

“Ndoro should have reported her to the police, or done something to stop her. If he had acted that way, the child would not be dead as we speak.”

Another neighbour, Ms Rebecca Marange, said two weeks before Rumbidzai’s gruesome murder, she had warned Bwanya against abusing her and had threatened to report her to the police.

“She told me that I was snooping and that her husband would deal with me if I kept snooping in their family matters.

“We all hope that justice will prevail. I knew this woman before she even started cohabiting with Ndoro. Her own daughter ran away from home because of her abuses. She never came back,” said Ms Marange.

Ndoro said Bwanya had influenced her to collect Rumbidzai from his parents’ house in Harare where she was staying and that he now lives to regret the day.

“Little did I know that she wanted to kill my child. If I had known, I would not have collected her. I regret that day more,” he said.

Tendai Happiness Bwanya (45) was arrested and has since appeared before a Mutare court facing murder charges.

She is being charged with murder as defined in Section 47 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.

Bwanya is alleged to have forcibly inserted a vibrator (sex toy) in the girl’s privates and hurriedly stage-managed a rape upon realising that the minor had been badly injured after assaulting her with an axe handle on her head.

She was initially remanded to September 12, 2016.
