The ManicaPost

By Shame Isaki
The year 2017 is soon coming to a close.  In a few days time it will be Christmas time and later the new year.  As usual individuals are looking back and reflecting on progress or achievements, if any, they have made in this year.

The easiest thing to do is to compile a list of resolutions at the beginning of each year but the biggest challenge is to realise those expectations by or before year end.  Some have not achieved a single goal, while some have realised part of their dreams and others have, by the grace of God, achieved all they dreamt and planned for.

Whatever circumstance we find ourselves in, we don’t need to despair.  As long as we did all that we could to try and achieve our goals whether in success or failure we all still ought to be grateful.

This is Christmas time and we ought to thank the Lord for his son Jesus Christ.  He gave us Jesus so that we could have abundant life through him.  Abundant life to share with others.

Dreams, plans, goals, ambitions or aspirations, are for the living.  The dead don’t dream, they don’t plan, they don’t wish and they don’t have feelings.  We should be grateful for the life we have.  Life is not about money, cars, houses or such things, though of course we need them, but more important to life is the life itself in Christ Jesus our Lord.

When we have abundant life in Christ Jesus then we have abundant time and grace to plan and accomplish our goals though we may fail or stumble here and there.  We ought to be thankful to God whether in abundance or lack, in sickness or health, in joy or tears.  Look around and look back and you will see many reasons to celebrate life and thank God for instead of condemning yourself or blaming the next person.

Loosen up, relax and be refreshed in preparation for the new year. Forgive people, look pastor beyond political, professional, relational or personal disappointments and enjoy the festive season in the spirit of God.  Its not a time for seclusion but one for inclusivity, for family and friends.

The Lord has done so much for us both as individuals and as a country and I assure you he is going to do more.  May I take this opportunity to wish The Manica Post staff, all Christians, the whole of Zimbabwe a prosperous 2018. God bless Zimbabwe.
