MUTARE City Council has fired three managers on three months’ notice barely a week after the trio was cleared of gross incompetence by a disciplinary hearing.

Mayor, Councillor Tatenda Nhamarare, revealed that a special council meeting held last Thursday to look into the case resolved to terminate the contracts of employment for treasurer, Mr Lloyd Musasa, human resources manager, Mr Aaron Chemvura and acting chamber secretary, Mrs Gladys Muneta.

They were on suspension since last year, but a disciplinary hearing presided over by prominent Mutare lawyer, Mr Chris Ndlovu, ruled that the local authority failed to make as case against the three.

Clr Nhamarare said the municipality accepted the ruling, but council was not happy with the conduct of three managers.

“We have decided to terminate their employment on three months’ notice. Council feels that the three are no longer suitable to work here and it is best that we part ways. We have accepted the outcome of the disciplinary hearing, but this is the path we have taken,” he said.

The managers were suspended last year pending an audit of Mutare Municipality Medical Aid Scheme (MMMAS). Employees were making contributions to the funds, but were not getting any services.

In his ruling after presiding over the matter, Mr Ndlovu, said the local authority had failed to prove its case against the trio and went on to say the charges were political.
