THREE Rusape Town Council police officers who allegedly stole cash which they had collected from vendors appeared in court facing theft charges.
The trio — Moses Mutorerwei (44), Tonderai Singangeni (48) and Fibion Mhlanga (58) — appeared before Ms Patience Madondo and were not asked to plead. They were remanded out of custody to July 16 for trial.

Prosecutor Ms Event Dhliwayo told the court that the trio pocketed $215 which they were supposed to hand over to council.
“On March 7, Mutorerwei took a receipt book, Serial numbers 281551 to 281750, from the storeroom and he did not book it in the revenue book. Mutorerwei and Singangeni then teamed up and receipted from Serial Numbers 281724 to 281744 from flea market vendors sums of money amounting to $215.

“When the two accused arrived at Vengere municipal offices, they connived with Mhlanga who is responsible for receiving the money, not to enter the amount in the revenue collection book. The three converted the money to their own use,” he said.
