STUDENTS from various universities and colleges around the country who are currently on attachment at various institutions in Chipinge District have embarked on a clean-up campaign earmarked to educate residents on the need to keep the environment clean.
Working in collaboration with Chipinge Rural District Council, Environmental Management Agency and Gwenzi Hardware, the students began their campaign by sprucing up Checheche Growth Point last Saturday.
Co-ordinator of the event, Mr Witness Zana, a 23-year-old student with Bulawayo Polytechnic said students have a role to play in developing their respective communities.
Said Mr Zana: “One way we can show that we have the community at heart is ploughing back to it through clean-up campaigns. We aim at tidying all business centres in Chipinge District so that people can live in clean and healthy environments.”
Councillor for Chipinge Ward 24, Cllr Lydia Hlekisana, appreciated the effort made by the students.
Said Cllr Hlekisana: “Residents should emulate what the students have done. I urge all people to keep our environment clean.”
