A TOTAL of 35 male football teams, 12 women soccer and eight netball teams have already started playing Chipinge Community Cup preliminary round matches ahead of the finals slated for next month at Gaza Stadium in Chipinge.
Preparations for the second edition of the exciting Chipinge Community Cup finals are at an advanced stage with organisers pledging a bigger and better event this year. The finals of the annual tournament, in which participating teams compete in football for men and women as well as netball, is pencilled in for October 14 and 15.
According to the organisers, corporates such as CABS, Tingamira, Nyaradzo Funeral Services, PSMAS, Truworths and DTC Africa have already confirmed their participation. Apart from teams participating in sporting competitions, this year’s event will include other dimensions such as business expo, culture and careers corner.
The theme of this year is “Where business meets the com- munity”. Simba Mwaingeni, the Harare-based banker who mooted the idea of the annual event, said the event would kick off on October 13 with a business and networking meeting.
“This year we are incorporating business apart from the usual sporting activities. We want to use sport as a tool for development and at the same time ensure that we enrich our folks in Chipinge with trendy business entrepreneurial skills. This is one way we hope to play our part in developing the place. I believe there is a lot of potential in Chipinge, but what has been lacking is the platform to have that potential exposed,” said Mwaingeni.
Mwaingeni confirmed that preliminary rounds are now underway and a few yet to be disclosed number of teams will make it to the finals at , Chipinge’s Gaza Stadium from October 13 to 15.
