FINANCE and Economic Development Minister, Cde Patrick Chinamasa has called on private investors to invest in strategic sectors to help revive the economy.

Speaking at the official commissioning of Kupinga Hydropower Station in Rusitu, Chipinge, last week, Cde Chinamasa said Government would offer incentives to investors who invest in key sectors like energy.

“Last year our economy grew by 0,7 percent and this year we are projecting a growth of 3,7 percent. As the economy grows, the demand for power follows suit.

“There is, therefore, need for investments in the energy sector. Energy projects take long, so there is need to address this issue of investments as soon as possible. All investments are welcome in the energy sector which include thermal, solar and hydro projects,” he said

Cde Chinamasa added: “There is no economy that could survive without proper investments in infrastructure development projects. In order to promote easy doing of business, Government is offering investment incentives that include tax holidays, cost reflective tariffs, exemption from payment of withholding tax and National Project Status.” Cde Chinamasa outlined other areas that are open for investment.”

“There are opportunities in areas of irrigation infrastructure development, solar energy technologies and small hydro-power development.”
