THIS year’s edition of the Chibuku Road to Fame Manicaland provincial finals are on tomorrow (Saturday) with 10 groups expected to battle for top honours.
Neighbourhood Tavern in Dangamvura will host the potentially explosive competitions which will see last year’s winners, Nice to Nice, competing again.
National Arts Council of Zimbabwe Manicaland acting provincial manager Alexander Tunzi said all the groups had confirmed their participation.
The competition aims to identify and nurture artistic talent in the province.
It also acts as a marketing tool for the Delta Beverages brand.
“We are ready to host yet another intriguing edition of the Chibuku Road to Fame. It is all systems go. We urge people to come in their numbers and be part of the fiesta,” he said.
He explained why last year’s winners, Nice to Nice, were allowed to compete again this year.
“If a group comes out tops at the national finals it will not be allowed to participate in the provincial and national finals again. Nice to Nice is still eligible to compete because they have not won any accolade except in the provincial finals,” said Tunzi.
Other groups that will participate are Lion Kings (Rukweza-Makoni), Nhengure DzeZimbabwe (Mutare), Tunes of Harmony (Mutare ), Dhimba Eastern Kings (Mutasa), Chigapu (Mutare), Razor Express and African Roots (Chipinge), Mbada Dzemafaro and Crazy Officers (Mutare District).
The overall winner will walk away with $500, while the first and second runners- up will receive $300 and $200 respectively.
Forgotten yet talented musician, Wiriranai Maenda, fondly known as Juicer Mupostori, will perform as a guest artiste.
The provincial winners will represent Manicaland at the national finals to be held in Harare on September 30.
