Chelsea have been warned that Thibaut Courtois remains a subject of interest for Real Madrid with his agent admitting he is regularly discussed in meetings with the Spanish club.

The Premier League champions have been looking to tie Courtois down to a long-term contract but put talks on hold last week after he demanded more than double his current wage of £90,000-a-week.

With two years remaining on his current deal, there is concern that allowing an extension to go unsigned will court attention from bigger clubs. In particular, Real Madrid are known to be on the lookout for a new goalkeeper.

And those fears appear to be justified with Courtois’ agent Christophe Henrotay confirming that Bernabeu officials often ask for updates on his situation at Stamford Bridge.

Henrotay said: ‘Thibaut obviously interests the biggest clubs, and therefore the reigning European champions. He is a player who wins matches and trophies for you.
