SOCCER coaches will now have an opportunity to work towards their CAF coaching licence badges amid revelations that the coaching courses will resume early next year.

The courses had been put on hold as Caf wanted to upgrade its teaching modules. The announcement, which was made at Caf’s technical and development committee meeting held in Egypt, recently comes after a year-long halt as the continental body was reworking on their coaching manuals.

The Zifa technical director Wilson Mutekede confirmed the development.

“The Caf consultative curriculum review is over, but it is important for everyone to note that there are also going to be changes in the manner in which we have been conducting the courses.

“Our local Caf instructors will first undergo a refresher course and by early next year we will resume the courses. Caf emphasised on a rigorous selection of course participants, and this simply means that not everyone will be eligible to enrol for these courses until and unless they satisfy set conditions.

“All applicants should produce coaching files as proof of practice, because we believe that there is no point in further training coaches who are not practising.

“Dedicated coaches should make efforts to practice, be it at schools, colleges or academies. What is key is to familiarise with real issues associated with the field,” he said.

According to Mutekede, apart from technical preconditions for eligibility to partake in Caf courses, interested participants are now obliged to produce a medical clearance to certify their ability to perform physical training.

Classes will also be trimmed to a maximum of 25 participants to ensure quality delivery during courses.

The last Caf C was held in Bindura last year with a total of 40 participants.
