FORMER Castle Lager Premiership outfit, Buffaloes, are struggling to stamp authority in the 2017 Eastern Region Division One League season  after winning only one match out of the four they have played so far. Buffaloes moved to Vengere Stadium in Rusape in search of a better crowd during home matches and they are getting exactly that, but results are somehow elusive for the Shadreck Mugurasave-coached team.

However, club chairman, Tendai Chitowa, said signs of improvement in the teams’ performance are there.

“I think we took long to get into the groove, but I am happy that signs of improvement are there and I know the team will soon start posting better results.

“We are confident that we will be picking up points in our league matches and that will see us moving up the log table. However, it will not be a stroll in the park. There are very good teams in the league and competition is stiff. We just have to be at our all time best to compete favourable,” said Chitowa. The Mutare businessman thanked football followers in Rusape for supporting the team by attending home matches at Vengere Stadium in their numbers. “We are happy with the move that we made when we relocated to Vengere. It is proving to be worthwhile given that we are having good crowds each time we play our home matches at Vengere. All we now want is to pay back to the fans by giving them entertaining football as well as good results,” he said. Buffaloes were set to play against Melfort at Vengere on Thursday (yesterday) to cover for their game in hand which was supposed to be played on the season opening round of league matches before the Mutare side face Mupandawana away from home.

Out of the first four matches of the season they played, Buffaloes won one, drew twice and lost one. The army outfit is making yet another Premiership promotion attempt after their failed bid last season when eventual winners, Yadah Stars got the better of the Mutare side in the race on the final day of the season.
