BUFFALOES’ coach, Ndega Matsika, whose team faces troublesome Gutu at Sakubva Stadium on Sunday, believes it is too early to talk about his team’s chances of clinching the 2016 Eastern Region Division One championship.

With five wins and one draw from the five matches played so far, Buffaloes has assumed pole position in the Eastern Region Division One league, thanks to last weekend’s impressive 1-0 away win over Calvary at Chibuku Stadium in Chitungwiza.

Lanky utility player, Prosper ‘Zhake’ Matizanadzo’s strike earned the Mutare soldiers the all-important three points.

Although hopes are high within the Buffaloes faithful that the Mutare army outfit will make a quick return to the top-flight league, Matsika said it was not yet time to discuss league championship permutations.

“I think it is too early to talk about the race for the championship in the league. Yes, it is everyone’s wish at Buffaloes that the team makes a quick return to the Premiership and it is my wish too, but I think if the truth be said, it is too early to discuss league championship permutations and what we all need to do is to keep collecting points so that when the time comes to talk about championship we will be in a better position,” he said.

The former Sakubva High student believes his team’s fine run in the Eastern Region Division One 2016 season is a result of team effort.

“I think we are playing quite well as a team and the results that we are getting are because of our collective efforts as a team. That is the spirit that I wish will live for a long period. We all understand our roles and we are playing our different roles to the best of our ability.

“I am also quite thankful to the support that the team is getting from all our key stakeholders and that include our leadership,” said Matsika.

Interestingly, Buffaloes will be in a real test of character when they face moneyed Yadah away in their next league match after Sunday’s home encounter.
