THE old adage that says love is blind was recently applied when a Nyazura visually impaired couple defied all odds to stage a memorable wedding.Dickson Mazorodze (49) wedded his wife of 16 years, Shelly Runganga (39) at a glittering wedding held at Methodist Revival Church Mt Zion Assembly.
The bubbly couple although devoid of eye sight proved that they have vision and spiritual sight that many people with full eyesight maybe lacking.
The wedding was graced by a record six pastors from MRC and three from other churches and to add icing on the cake popular gospel artiste, Agatha Murudzwa-Ndembera performed at the wedding.
Mt Zion Assembly pastor, Pastor Last Muchero, said Dickson and Shelly’s wedding was enough testimony that disability was not inability.
“We are witnessing miracles and the hand of God here. Most of us tend to look down upon disabled people including the visually impaired, but today we were made to eat a humble pie. Society has a certain way of viewing people like Shelly and Dickson, but God has a different and unique way.
“We have so many people with full eyesight, but are yet to wed. This is a blessing from the Lord,” said Pastor Muchero.
An elated Dickson said it was a dream come true for him and said he was grateful to MRC, relatives and the Nyazura community for making their wedding possible.
Dickson and his wife survives solely on the benevolence of members of the public and he said if they gets capital they wanted to venture into buying and selling business which is more sustainable as opposed to begging in buses, trains and pavements.
“We are so excited that finally we managed to wed and we hail the Almighty God for this achievement. Our church members especially the pastor and his wife played a big role by accepting us in the church and also organising this wedding.
“We survive through donations from members of the public and we are grateful for that, but we want something which is reliable and sustainable for us.
‘‘We can manage buying and selling. We are blessed with six children,” said Dickson.
