The ManicaPost

ESTEEMED followers of the game of football, thank you for finding time for interaction.

Since their birth late last year, newly-formed Manica Diamonds FC are already creating both interest and excitement among enthusiasts of the local game as everything about them so far promises to mark the dawn of a new era in Mutare in particular and Manicaland in general.

Now in the final stages of fine-tuning and finalising their squad, the club look everything like finally the real deal on the local football front where this new kid on the block is making a huge impression.

Manica Diamonds are currying a local flavour to their existence, seeking to be the football face of the city and province.

Mutare’s favourite sons Hibron “Adhala Chommiey” Makukutu, Clemence “Skude” Mukudu and Steven “Dealer” Sibanda have found a new home at the diamond base. To put more locality in the frame, the resident pair of Ticha Zikai (team manager) and Peter Masibera (goalkeepers coach) are in the picture.

Some local junior players are also set to be conscripted into their squad for a blend and balance of youth and experience.

Veteran gaffer Luke “VaHombe” Masomere has been entrusted with steering their promotion campaign to fruition.

The Gem Boys, as alluded to in their name, are shining like diamonds and have that strong gravitational pull that has attracted some seasoned players like Benjamin Marere, William “Munhu” Mapfumo and Louis Matawu; some evening dumping their top-flight teams teams for the second-tier league.

Manica Diamonds are simply out to profile themselves as the team of choice in the Eastern border city. As such, they have already been turning heads among their peers they will spar with in the reserve division.

The lure of these diamonds just cannot be resisted.

With magnanimous corporate backing from their parent company, the Zimbabwe Consolidate Diamond Company, this team is set to beat a new path and blaze a trail in the local game. That fiscal stability may mirror them as being cut from the same cloth as fellow miners and moneybags FC Platinum and Ngezi Platinum Stars.

While uniformed forces teams Buffaloes and Tenax are run on leaner budgets, the diamond miners look like they have the mojo going forward.

And with Premiership returnees Mutare City Rovers being haunted by financial ghosts, Manica Diamonds look the brightest prospect.

All eyes, therefore, will be firmly on the Gem Boys as they prepare to set out on a football journey.

Can they secure the ticket into the Premiership at the first time of asking?

It’s Game On, Play On!
