Dear Tete Barbara
I AM a straight A student currently doing lower six at a boarding school at one of the best schools in Manicaland. In four months I will be a mother and my mother does not even know. I went back to school after the holidays and discovered that I was pregnant.
I have been using a bandage to tie my stomach but now the countdown is coming to an end. I have decided to go to my boyfriend’s house after Christmas to become his wife.
I know I messed up big time but it is what it is and an abortion is out of the question. My mother is a widow who lost our father in an accident on Christmas day many years ago. I feel terrible. How will I tell her?

Sooner or later the truth will come out and in your case it will all be revealed in a few months.
The earlier you let your mother know what the reality is on the ground the better. I suggest that you seek the help an aunt either from your paternal or maternal side to help convey the message to your mother.
You have to let your relatives know what it is you are going through so that they can help you with information on how to deal with your situation.
If you do decide to go to your boyfriend before he pays lobola make sure you are in agreement so as to avoid a situation where he will reject you and cause more confusion.
If he has the money to pay lobola then it would be wiser to put that plan into action as soon as possible. Communication is key my darling whenever trying to resolve issues. You have made a mistake but it is time to correct those errors.
