AFM congregants had a beginning of the year all night prayer session last Friday as they sought to bring themselves closer to the Almighty in the face of the ungodly practices that continue to be perpetrated by believers and non-believers alike.

Pastor Togarepi Chiumba said there were several reasons they had a prayer session although prayer is a part of a Christian whether he does that on a day to day basis or when he meets other congregants.

‘’We had an all night prayer whereby we prayed for generational curses.

For example, you find that a diabetic may have had a mother or father who had the same ailment.

There are things that may happen to a person which he inherited from a parent or ancestor in the past and we say that must come to a stop.

People must break that curse,’’ he said, before adding: “People must have personal salvation if they are to be saved.

It is not enough to say you go to church, yet you don’t have personal salvation.’’

He said there were deeds that were synonymous with darkness as spelt out in Galatians 5, but God is very articulate about it when He says in Galatians 5:21: “Those who are wont to do those devious deeds will not be able to enter the kingdom of God.”

‘’As Chipangayi congregants, we prayed for our nation, Zimbabwe.

We ought to know that this is the country that God gave us and not any other nation. We must say good things about our country.

At the same time, we prayed for our leaders and knowing that this is the election season in view of the impending 2018 elections, we also prayed for peace to reign supreme during the campaign period as eloquently espoused by the president,’’ he said.

Chipangayi has received normal to above normal rain this year and as such it is important to thank God about it.

‘’Many people pray when they want help to flee a bad event.

However, in the all night prayer, we thanked God for availing rain to the people of Zimbabwe.

Yes, he is a God that fulfills his prophecy. Joel1:3 show that God has the power of restoration.

In 2Chronicles 7: 14, God beseeches his people to turn to him for salvation and that is what we did and will continue to do,’’ Pastor Chiumba said.

The pastor talked about the role of the church in peace building.

‘’God loves peace. Leaders love peace, if we listen carefully to their exhortations and for that, as church leaders, we must be seen as torch-bearers in peace building manouvres.

Thus, over the weekend, we prayed for peace to fill our country,’’ he ended.

As the congregants cleaned their church for the all night prayer, they had a torrid time in trying to dispatch an owl that apparently had sought refuge from the heavy rains inside the AFM building in Chipangayi.

The pastor played down the incident and said the owl could have entered the church building in an attempt to seek refuge from the heavy rains.

‘’In the spirit realm, people associate owls and hyenas with witchcraft, but at times, the owl could have genuinely sought sanctuary from the heavy rains.

There are no windows at our church building; hence, it entered and the people who saw it could have misconstrued it as a bad sign,’’ he concluded.

Costa Chaeruka, a congregant, praised the pastor for ensuring that congregants received spiritual food in time. He felt that the prayers were good for the country as they put the nation close to God.

AFM is an apostolic church that has branches in many parts of the country.
