MANICALAND darts players Selesio Gunda and Caleb Sigauke are part of Team Zimbabwe in the ongoing Africa Union Sports Council Regional 5 Darts Championship in Malawi.

Gunda has since bagged a silver medal in the men’s open singles. The games started on Monday and ending today (Friday). Six countries are taking part, Malawi, Zambia, Namibia, Botswana, South Africa and Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe team travelled to Malawi with a total of 18 players. So far Zimbabwe has played the Open singles and Open doubles.

In the ladies category, Zimbabwe duo of Svodai Nyika and Sawujadi Phiri won a silver medal after losing to Botswana. Phiri also won a gold medal in the Ladies Open Singles. In the men’s category, Mordecai Dheka and Michael Chikomba settled for a silver medal in the Open doubles category after falling 3-0 to South Africa. Selesio Gunda lost 4-2 to Les Guvayor of South Africa in the Men’s Open singles to settle for a silver medal. By the time of going to the press, Zimbabwe team was left with Closed Doubles, Closed Singles, and Team games.

In a telephone interview, Sigauke said they were hoping to do well in the remaining games and bring some medals to Manicaland. “We are currently doing well as team Zimbabwe. So far we are left with Closed Doubles, Closed Singles and team games. We are fighting hard as a team because we are going to be ranked after the team games.

“There is no big difference here and we are just playing our normal game.  Nothing new at all. As team Zimbabwe  we are a threat to the other teams. We want to bring medals to Zimbabwe and Manicaland,” said Sigauke. Sigauke and Gunda were part of the Manicaland Darts Team which participated in the  National Darts Association Heroes Tournament.

The team bagged a total of seven medals.

Gunda won a gold medal in the National Closed Singles.

Youth Teams Junior men: Nashe Murambi (Harare), Brandon Ncube (Mat South). Junior women: Sibongile Nomsa Kagodora (Harare), Siphindile Moyo (Mat South):
