FOUR people died last week when a truck they were travelling in veered off the road and plunged into a steep slope, rolled twice and landed on its roof near Skyline Waterfalls in Chimanimani.

Three died on the spot and one at Chipinge District Hospital where he was admitted.

Among the dead was Aaron Sigauke who was employed by Chipinge Dairiboard.

He died on the spot together with his wife, Stella Sigauke.

Chipinge District police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Kadzuraumera confirmed the incident.

“We can confirm that on Sunday, October 17 at around 6pm, Mapfumo Mutume was driving his white Nissan UD40 lorry, Registration Number ACB2081 towards Chipinge Town.

“When he approached the 30km peg, he failed to negotiate a sharp curve and lost control of the vehicle which veered off the road to the left side and plunged into a steep slope,” he said.

Asst Insp Kadzuraumera said the occupants were thrown out and sustained severe injuries.

“Aaron Sigauke and Stella Sigauke died on the spot together with Tafadzwa Mutume.

“The driver, Mapfumo, who remained trapped inside the vehicle, was taken to Chipinge District Hospital by an unknown passerby where he died the following day.

“The wreckage is still at the scene awaiting inspection by the Vehicle Inspection Department.

‘’As police, we urge drivers to exercise caution when driving to avoid mishaps,’’ urged Asst Insp Kadzuraumera.
