A SHAMELESS Rusape man who quenched his sexual appetite on his two mentally challenged step daughters for eight months will languish in prison after he was convicted of raping the minors.
The convict, who cannot be named as this will automatically disclose the identity of the victims, was slapped with a 30 year jail term by Rusape regional magistrate, Mr Livingstone Chipadza.
However, five years of the sentence will be suspended on condition of good behaviour.
The 37 year old who resides in Magamba Extension was not legally represented had pleaded not guilty to raping the 19 and 12 year old complainants.
One of the girls is doing Grade One while the other is in an Early Childhood Development class at a local school.
Rusape District prosecutor, Mr Tirivanhu Mutyasira, told the court that the suspect used protection to rape the girls and threatened to assault them if they disclosed the crimes.
“On dates unknown to the prosecutor but during the period extending from 1 January 2016 to 8 September 2016 the accused would get into the room where the complainants slept. The girls are mentally incompetent. The accused would put on a condom and raped the girls. He would take advantage of every opportunity he could get and had sexual intercourse with the complainants on several occasions.
“The matter came to light when the sisters were playing at school and had a dispute. One of the girls accused her sister of having sexual intercourse with their father. A female teacher overhead the accusation and the 19-year-old girl revealed the rape incidents to the teacher. On 9 September 2016 the matter was reported at police. The girls were referred to Rusape General Hospital for medical examinations,” said Mr Mutyasira.
