THREE victims of the Inter Africa bus accident victims have not been identified a week after the Mutare-bound coach crashed into a big tree near Odzi and killed five passengers on board.

Fatigue was a factor in the Shamu Business Centre bus crash and a week after the tragic incident that left nine other victims with serious injuries — police are yet to identify three of the deceased, whose bodies are at Mutare Provincial Hospital mortuary.

Police national spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyati confirmed the development and appealed to members of the public with missing relatives to assist trace the victims.

Chief Supt Nyati only identified Lawson Tererai Hokonya of Magwegwe North, Bulawayo, and Manyara Nyarume (34) of Ngangu Township, Chimanimani.

“The other three have not been identified and we are appealing to those with missing relatives that were on that road on the day of the accident going to Mutare to approach and assist police with investigations. The bodies are at Mutare Provincial Hospital mortuary,” said Chief Supt Nyati, suggesting that the victims didn’t have any particulars when the incident occurred in the wee hours of Wednesday last week.

Nowadays DNA can be used to positively identify a body, but this type of analysis is costly and does not always work on poorly preserved remains. The bus had 48 passengers aboard.
