27 teams for Buhera tournament

TWENTY seven soccer teams from Wedza and Buhera are participating in the Kumene soccer tournament which is sponsored by Buhera businessmen, Ben Chari.

Although play-offs have begun, finals of the tournament will be played next weekend. The annual tournament which is aimed at keeping youths off the streets and allow them to showcase their talents will see some of the outstanding players being selected to play in other bigger teams.

Football kits, balls and trophies will be awarded to the best teams and players selected during the tournament. Participants will battle it out in the Under-14s, U-20s and seniors categories.

Buhera District coordinator in the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, Tawanda Muganyi, said: “The aim of the Kumene tournament is to nurture talent of footballers from 14 years so that they get the opportunity to do something fruitful in life.

“The tourney is open to everyone between 14 and 35 years,” he said. Of the 27 teams participating in the Buhera-Wedza annual tournament, 19 are for the senior men soccer which include Getsi-Getsi, Mutiweshiri, La Murambinda, Mutasa Gogodera, Barcelona, Real Gogodera, Emuze FC, Rerun Magogodera, Ndawana FC, Chengoma, Buhera FC, Mawangwe, Chikurumadziwa, Chiweshe FC, Jetsi, Nyarungwe, Wedza Bullets and Kuenda FC .

Two women soccer include Murambinda Queens and Mutiweshiri. Hande, St John’s, Murambinda, and Murambinda Government schools are the secondary schools in the U-20 category.

Two teams in the primary schools category include Murambinda B and Mutasa primary schools.
