OVER 10 000 youths in Chipinge District will this year receive residential stands as party of Zanu-PF and Government’s empowerment programme.

Chipinge Town Council has pledged 350 hectares at Redwell Farm — just 5km from the town to establish a youth village.

Chipinge Rural District Council guaranteed 50ha at Checheche Growth Point meant for youths.

A land developer and the physical planning department have since been engaged to prepare the land in these two areas.

Speaking to over 5 000 people who attended the launch on Sunday at Gaza Stadium, Zanu-PF national youth political commissar, Cde Innocent Hamandishe, said there was no going back on ceding residential stands to youths from across the country.

Said Cde Hamandishe: “This is a real project and we are urging youths not to be doubting thomases. We need to own land and President Mugabe gave us the nod. It is a Government programme which will see all youths benefiting from residential stands at a very low cost.

“The programme is being rolled out in every part of the country since youths constitute the majority of the population,” he said.

Cde Hamandishe denounced some political heavyweights who are abusing their power in the distribution of land belonging to youths.

“This programme is a game changer for youths. We don’t need adults to interfere in allocating residential stands. We will raise the red flag when our land is grabbed by those who have the political muscles.

“As youths, we also deserve to benefit from the national cake. We have been sidelined in a number of empowerment programmes yet we always play a leading role in defending the revolution,” said Cde Hamandishe.

Speaking during the same event, Manicaland Zanu-PF youth chairperson, Cde Mubuso Chinguno, called for zero tolerance of corruption in the distribution of residential stands.

“Our youth wing will try its best to make sure that the residential stands benefit bonafide youths. We are saying no to corruption and corrupt elements will be brought to book.

“We are grateful to what our President did to empower us as youths with stands. This is a great achievement for a youth to own a residential land,” he said.

Cde Chinguno said the youth wing had also identified land suitable for farming which should also benefit youths.

“We have also identified the few remaining land for farming mainly in Chipinge District which should also benefit youths,” he added.

The event was attended by four Members of National Assembly, Cdes Enock Porusingazi, Raymore Machingura and Winmore Mlambo as well as traditional leaders and Government officials.
